I have always been passionate about helping people in a way that builds their confidence and self-esteem, supporting people to develop healthy coping strategies, resilience and independence. In my early twenties, I was seeking a vocation that gave me true purpose in an area of genuine interest and where I could apply my personal strengths and skills.
This led me to I begin training as a Counsellor in 1993 Over the next 3 years, I undertook Paid and voluntary roles helping people in a drug Rehabilitation unit and within Private Practice.
Over the last 25 years, I have worked with different organisations and with hundreds of individuals. Within the last 5 years I have added Solution Focused Hypnotherapy to my skill set, a therapeutic technique which has a solid basis in science and incorporates the latest research.
It is generally recognised that the therapeutic relationship between client and practitioner is one of the strongest indicators of achieving positive change for the client. Both parties have equal input, I bring knowledge, expertise and experience as a therapist, you bring your knowledge, expertise and experience of being You. I look to create a caring and accepting environment where we can work together to fulfil your aims of therapy.
I continue to professionally develop in several ways, by endless reading, attending courses and workshops, undertaking additional qualifications, regular supervision, peer support and open and honest self-reflection. These practises help to ensure that I remain competent, compassionate and able to work to the highest possible standards.
As a Person-centred therapist, I believe that individuals have a great capacity for self-healing and personal growth when provided with a nurturing environment in which they feel safe enough to explore, experience and expand their understanding. The therapist’s role is to provide these conditions, which include, warmth, respect, empathic understanding, compassion, authenticity and unconditional positive regard
